This Week in Review - 3-6-18

by Cheryl Najafi |

They say that Hollywood rewrites history within its portrayal of historic events; however, last night during the Oscars we saw Hollywood write history. My daughter studies performance as a medium for social justice. She believes when one has the privilege of an audience, s/he has an obligation to speak and fight on behalf of the voiceless. Hollywood used its voice for such justice. It took a stand against the divisiveness that curdles our nation. Ashley Judd, Annabella Sciorra and Salma Hayek of the Me Too movement, Dreamers, orange anti-gun violence pins adorned the actors, Common’s rap to the NRA, "Tell the NRA they in God's way and tell the people of Parkland we say àse [a West African philosophy about creating change]. Sentiments of love for the people from Africa, Haiti, to Puerto Rico.” We the people unite, exhault each other and put a stop to the divisiveness.
