Unfortunately, the gun debate is a topic likely to remain a part of our nation’s narrative for the foreseeable future. As an onlooker, I can’t help but shake my head and wonder why it’s so difficult to keep our children safe, especially in our school system. While one news channel touts more policy and reform, the other touts more attention to mental health. What’s confusing to me is why we have to choose one or the other, when the answer is (quite obviously, in my opinion) a resounding: BOTH! The horrific uptick in mass school shootings should have us on the same page collectively, rather than causing further division. Only then will we have sensible legislation to move forward. When did keeping our children safe become controversial? There is so much time, money and energy spent on the argument itself. I wonder what would happen if we put this energy toward a viable solution?
