Yesterday was bittersweet for me. Scores of daughter's friends, who graduated high school this past spring, popped by excited about the next chapter in their lives as they head off to college. This year marks an end to an era for me—motherhood. While my youngest has one year left of high school, and the twins are taking a gap year, their needs of our constant nurturing is turning into a simmer.
I’m thrilled for all the young people who have worked their tails off to attend some of the best educational institutions in the world. Yet, I can’t help but worry (profusely!) that the landscape of this country and culture has changed so drastically over the past few years. What will their future hold as our nation becomes more polarized?
This is the reason that I fight so hard for Love Over Hate. The sum of our loving and caring parts is greater than the scenario playing out in front of us. The American spirit is better than what we see portrayed in the media. We must keep fighting the GOOD fight.
While I’m a bit melancholy about part of my tribe leaving the next, knowing they are the children of the future makes my heart skip a beat.
With Love Over H8,
